Tree Removal by Friendly Tree Service
The tree in your front yard might look healthy on the outside when, in fact, it’s a dangerous situation waiting to happen. Removing hazardous trees from your yard might not be your first choice, but in some cases – it is the only choice. An experienced tree care professional can help you safely determine the best course of action in these kinds of emergency or hazardous situations.
There are two vitally important things to look for when hiring an arborist:
- Liability and workers’ compensation insurance
- Proper equipment and training for safe tree removal
Each specialist at Friendly Tree Service works according to the “safety first” mantra:
- We own the most advanced equipment to safely, quickly, and cleanly remove branches, trees, and shrubs. Our tree cranes reach over 150 feet away, with the ability to lift up to 42 tons — which means we can get to trees that no one else can touch.
- We adhere to the highest ANSI Z133 standards for workplace safety, putting the safety of you, your neighbors and our workers first, and limiting the impact on your property.
How to Tell if Your Tree Needs to be Removed
The arborists at Friendly Tree have years of experience and training; we can let you know if your tree should be removed or if it is safe to stay. Not every dead tree has to be removed. Trees that don’t pose a risk to people or property if they were to fall can be left without intervention. Our arborists are highly trained in tree health and safety and can provide an honest assessment of your tree’s health by studying the trunk, branches, sprouts and location.
The professionals at Friendly Tree are certified arborists with the International Society of Arboriculture, certified tree experts in New Jersey, and certified crane operators — all of which require rigorous training and experience, allowing us to do jobs many others can’t.

We’ve removed trees from every imaginable location, including the sides of cliffs, courtyards in midtown Manhattan, and inaccessible back yards in Hoboken and New York City. In these cases, debris had to be cut into small pieces, packaged, and carried through finished rooms, kitchens and fire escapes to get to street level for recycling. If you have a tricky tree – don’t worry; we can remove it.
How Much Does it Cost to Remove a Tree?
Tree removal is specifically priced to each tree’s condition, location, and accessibility. We factor in the type of wood, the amount of debris that will need to be removed, and the amount of time it will take to complete the job and remove the tree both safely and cleanly. Small trees that are easily accessible can be quickly removed for as little as $100; damaged, hazardous trees with limited access might take at least a day to remove and could cost up to $10,000. Every situation is unique, and there are many variables that go into the cost of tree removal. Your best bet is to call us for a free quote.

What Are the Next Steps After Removing a Tree?
At Friendly Tree, we always recommend replacing every tree removed with at least one new tree, taking into account the soil conditions of the site where the removed tree was located. Soil amendments may be necessary for the success of your newly planted tree to help it not only survive, but thrive and be a friendly tree!
Soil compaction, local soil chemistry, and the presence of wood chips from stump grinding can affect your new tree. Once the tree is removed and the stump is ground, the wood chips left in the hole temporarily steal nitrogen and nutrients from the soil, which enables the chips to break down and feed the soil. Certain wood chips from stump grinding may be more acidic than base, and amending the soil can help provide a better balance.
It’s also important to remember that stumps ground below grade are not completely removed. They are typically ground to just below the surface and up to 12 inches below the surface grade. There will likely be portions of the stump or roots left behind, which may affect the growth of a new tree in that same location.
